Károly Erdélyi genealogy research in Hungary

Hundreds of people over the centuries

For a young person born around the year 2000, there may be 7 or 8 generations on their family tree. Naturally, the number doubles with each generation. If one manages to trace seven generations of ancestors, the data of 255 individuals—including the person themselves—will appear on the family tree.

Follow the name of your ancestors!

Researching Jewish families is complicated by two factors. One is that the official registration of Jewish vital records began relatively late—only in 1851—with only sporadic data surviving from earlier periods. The other is one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century: the Holocaust. During those turbulent times, Jews were murdered in vast numbers or perished while performing forced labor or in labor camps. Yet, despite such challenges, successful results can still be achieved in genealogical research.

Follow the name of your ancestors!

When researching a specific surname line, we investigate the ancestors bearing that name from either the paternal or maternal side (or both). For example, in the case of the married couple István Horváth and Mária Kovács, we would research the Horváth line on the paternal side and the Kovács line on the maternal side.
